Road Traffic Act 1988 Section 170: Duty of driver to stop, report accident and give information or documents
If a car is involved in an accident which causes damage to another car, animal* or property, the driver must stop, provide his name and address and that of the owner of the car, to anyone affected by the incident who requests it. If the driver fails to do this, he must report the accident to the police within twenty four hours.
*horse, cattle, ass, mule, sheep, pig, goat or dog
Penalty: Discretionary disqualification, and a mandatory endorsement of the licence between 5 and 10 points.
