Racing on a Public Road

Road Traffic Act 1988 Section 12: Racing on a public way

A person who promotes or takes part in a race or trial of speed between motor vehicles on a public road is guilty of an offence.

Penalty: Obligatory disqualification and a fine.

The Crown tend to prosecute cases such as these under Dangerous Driving, because the penalty is more severe.

How We Can Help

We can try to persuade the court that the client was not, in fact, racing.
